Victron Energy Galvanic Isolator VDI-16 A

Victron Energy Galvanic Isolator effectively prevents electrolytic corrosion by blocking low voltage DC currents that may enter your boat through the shore power earth wire.

These currents pose a threat to the boat's underwater metals, such as the hull, propeller, shaft, and others.

Internally, the galvanic isolator is equipped with two diodes connected in an anti-parallel configuration. This setup allows current to flow in both directions but only above a certain threshold voltage, typically around 1.4 Vdc.

The isolator is conveniently installed directly behind your boat's 230V connection. Its forward voltage is set higher than the potential difference between metals, ensuring non-conduction and effectively preventing any electrolytic current. In the event of a higher error voltage in the AC circuit, the diodes will permit current flow, triggering the residual-current device to break the circuit for added safety.
